February 1, 2021 - *Important* Dining Changes Affecting You Beginning Tomorrow

Sent on behalf of Cal Dining to meal plan holders on 2/1/21:

Dear meal plan holder,

You are receiving this message because you currently have a Cal Dining meal plan.

Due to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, this morning we informed students living in residence halls that they are required to strictly self-sequester beginning today and continuing through at least Monday, February 8. If you are a resident of a suite or living in off-campus housing or university-owned/affiliated apartments, you are currently not required to participate in this self-sequester period based on current public health directives and patterns of transmission. This may change to include suites and apartment-style housing if the situation dictates; we are committed to following best current science and practice, given practical constraints.

We are writing to let you know about how your dining experience will be different during this time.

Beginning tomorrow, February 2:

  • Café 3, Crossroads, and Clark Kerr will remain open and hours will remain the same.
  • The Golden Bear Café, Pizzeria 1868 and convenience stores (Bear Market, CKCub and The Den) will be closed through at least February 8, 2021.
  • During this time, menus may be slightly different than what was previously posted. We will still have options for those with specific dietary restrictions and needs.

Students living in residence halls will not be allowed to go inside the dining commons to pick up food; instead, their meals will be delivered to outdoor locations for pickup near the residence halls. Please do not use the outdoor locations for meal pickup, as these are reserved for students in the residence halls.

Badge system reminder: As a reminder, this week Health Ambassadors will begin checking for compliance with mandatory testing requirements. The ambassadors will use the testing badge system to ensure that anyone entering is up to date on their required COVID-19 testing. Please be prepared to show your badge in eTang (using your mobile phone). You will receive food, no matter what color your badge is.

Keep following best practices: As always, please continue to follow protocols such as physical distancing, handwashing, and wearing face coveringsBears Protect Bears

You must also continue to be tested twice-per-week as you have been required to do throughout this semester, and per the current Public Health Directive this MUST be according to the Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday schedule previously communicated, with no more than 3-4 days between tests. Schedule your test. Students experiencing symptoms or who identify as contacts to COVID-19 will be directed to UHS for testing rather than to the surveillance sites, per eTang.

Again, this is for one week at this time (until at least February 8). Please also continue to monitor your Berkeley email address for more important announcements. For more information about meal service, please visit the Cal Dining COVID-19 updates page

Many thanks,
