February 1, 2021 - Dining During Self-Sequester Period

Sent on behalf of Cal Dining to all students living in the residence halls on 2/1/21:

Dear resident,

As you know, due to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, this morning we informed you that students living in the residence halls are required to strictly self-sequester beginning today and continuing through at least Monday, February 8.  We are following up to tell you more about how dining will work during this time.

Beginning tomorrow, February 2 and continuing through at least February 8, students living in residence halls will not be allowed to go inside the dining commons to pick up food; instead, lunch and dinner to-go meals will be delivered to outdoor kiosk locations for pickup outside your residence hall.  At dinnertime, you can also pick up a to-go breakfast box for the following day.

Please plan to pick up your meals at the specific time windows specified on this web page; these time windows are specific to your residential household grouping or floor. Bring your Cal ID and go to the entrance or courtyard area of your building, and look for the Cal Dining tables.

Note that the time windows are very short. You may want to appoint someone in your residential grouping to pick up food for your whole residential grouping. Be sure to move quickly to pick up your food and return to your room so that we can make sure everyone gets served on time.

Options will be available for kosher, halal, vegan and vegetarian meals, as well as for those with food allergies.

Please note: The Golden Bear Café, Pizzeria 1868 and convenience stores (Bear Market, CKCub and The Den) will be closed through at least February 8, 2021.

Keep following best practices: As always, please continue to follow protocols such as physical distancing, handwashing, and wearing face coverings. Bears Protect Bears

You must also continue to be tested twice-per-week as you have been required to do throughout this semester, and per the current Public Health Directive this MUST be according to the Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday schedule previously communicated, with no more than 3-4 days between tests. Schedule your test. Students experiencing symptoms or who identify as contacts to COVID-19 will be directed to UHS for testing rather than to the surveillance sites, per eTang.

Badge system reminder: As a reminder, this week Health Ambassadors will begin checking for compliance with mandatory testing requirements. The ambassadors will use the testing badge system to ensure that anyone entering is up to date on their required COVID-19 testing. Please be prepared to show your badge in eTang (using your mobile phone). You will receive food, no matter what color your badge is.

Again, this is for one week at this time (until at least February 8). For more information about meal service, please visit the Cal Dining COVID-19 updates page. Please also continue to monitor your Berkeley email address for more important announcements.

Many thanks,
Cal Dining, Cal Housing and Residential Life
