Increase in Freshman = Increase in Occupancy This year we had over 98% occupancy for residence halls and over 97% occupancy in apartments in 2011-12, due in part to an unexpected increase in freshmen acceptances in the fall semester. |

Maximo Martinez Commons to Open in Fall 2012 UC’s newest housing facility currently under construction in the Anna Head parking area will be named in honor of Maximino “Max” Martinez, a long time student affairs employee who passed away suddenly while playing lunchtime basketball at the Recreational Sports Facility in 2003. Martinez Commons will provide housing to 416 continuing students with priority on sophomore student housing. |

Smyth-Fernwald Apartments to Retire Smyth-Fernwald Apartments closed at the end of 2011-12. After providing UC students and families with housing for more than 65 years, the buildings have reached the end of their useful lives and will be demolished. |
