The Violence Prevention Collaborative is comprised of undergraduate student, graduate student, and professional staff members from a variety of organizations and departments on campus. Our focus is building strong partnerships across various roles and positionalities on campus in order to engage in meaningful and community-based violence prevention work. 2016-2017 VPC Members

Natalie Bulik-SullivanEconomics and German majors, ASUC Student Advocate's Office

Natalie Bulik-Sullivan is the Director of the Grievance Division of the ASUC Student Advocate’s Office, which is one of the five executive offices of the ASUC. The Grievance Division in particular aids students are facing discrimination or harassment from University-affiliated entities. She is a junior majoring in Economics and German and minoring in Russian Language, and also serves with the University’s Army ROTC program.

Larissa Charnsangavej, Graduate Division

Larissa is in her second year as the Graduate Student Life Coordinator at Cal. Through her work, she has been able to collaborate on many projects across departments and divisions with the goal of improving the graduate student experience on campus. Larissa received her Bachelors from Rice University and a Masters in Student Affairs from UCLA. 

Jeah Clemente, 3rd Year Integrative Biology Major, Bears That CARE

Ryan Cobb, Intercollegiate Athletics
Working in Sports Medicine and Intercollegiate Athletics for nearly 20 years, Ryan works to coordinate services to Cal's Intercollegiate Student Athletes, as well as helping to foster collaboration and integration between Athletics and many other campus departments and services, in areas of welfare, health and conduct. Serving as Cal's Head Athletic Trainer since 2003, Cobb oversees areas related to Performance, Health and Welfare, including Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition Services, Risk Management, and coordinating all medical services in conjunction with the Head Team Physician and Medical Director at University Health Services. He also is the administrator overseeing several of Cal's Athletic Teams.

Justin Crosby, 4th Year Public Health major, Gender Equity Resource Center

Justin started working in the healthcare field as a member of the Berkeley Free Clinic's rapid HIV testing section, in which he developed a passion for sexual health and reproductive justice. While continuing to work at the Berkeley Free Clinic, he currently works with the Sexual Health Education Program providing HIV testing and Sexual Health Counseling, as well as with the Gender Equity Resource Center, coordinating and teaching their sexual assault defense classes. 

Melissa Fike, Residential Education

Melissa currently serves as a Resident Director here at Cal, with a special interest in helping students develop strategies that promote holistic wellness (particularly as it relates to mental health), helping those from underrepresented populations break barriers on the road to success, and international education. Melissa received her Bachelors in Psychology from Texas Lutheran University and her Masters in Higher Education from Iowa State University. She loves hiking, yoga, exploring the Bay area, spending time with her friends, and playing with her dog, Luna.

Jackie GardnerLEAD Center

Jackie's interest in student affairs began in undergrad where she was involved in Greek Life, orientation, alternative breaks and leadership development. Her love for student development and education led her to receive a Masters in College Student Personnel from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Since starting at Berkeley two years ago, she has worked closely with the Panhellenic and Multi-Cultural Greek Councils as an advisor in the LEAD Center. When she isn't at work, Jackie loves reading, lifting weights and exploring California!

Parker Garrett, 3rd Year Business Administration major, Student-Athlete
I am currently a Junior in the Haas School of Business at Cal. I am also a member of the Varsity Lacrosse team here at Cal. Last spring, I started as a virtual intern for The One Love Foundation, where I hold workshops that inform people about the dangers of relationship violence. I now work to represent the student-athlete body in the Violence Prevention Collaboration.

Dylan C. Howser, LEAD Center

Dylan (he/him/his) is an advisor in the LEAD Center primarily working with traditionally-housed fraternities and all LGBTQ+ Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). He focuses on developing leaders of integrity through critical pedagogy and an intersectional feminist framework. Dylan received his B.A. from Millikin University in philosophy and gender studies, and his Masters of Education from Penn State University in College Student Affairs and a graduate minor in Women's Studies.

Tiffany Hsiang (Co-Chair)PATH to Care Center

Tiffany Hsiang, LCSW, is a Confidential Care Advocate dedicated to social justice, community empowerment, and trauma-informed care. Through the PATH to Care Center, Tiffany provides survivor-centered advocacy and organizes healing initiatives for individuals and communities impacted by sexual violence. Additionally, she provides trainings and workshops to enhance the campus and community’s prevention and response practices. Tiffany holds a dual bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, a master's degree in Social Science from the University of Chicago, and a master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University. In her free time, she enjoys long distance running, cooking, and musical theater. 

James Kato (Co-Chair), Student Affairs Case Management
James Kato is the Violence Prevention & Education Program Coordinator in Student Affairs Case Management. Prior to starting in his current role, James worked professionally in intercultural education and residential life, and is now thrilled to be working on campus harm prevention. James oversees the Bears That CARE campus bystander intervention training program and the All Bears Train media campaign project promoting inclusion and aiming to reduce sexual harassment in the RSF in collaboration with Cal Rec Sports. After earning his B.A. in Sociology and Asian American Studies from Pomona College, James taught middle school as a Fulbright Fellow in South Korea before getting his M.Ed. in Student Affairs from UCLA.

Sarah O'SullivanLEAD Center

Sarah came to Cal in the Fall of 2015, and currently advises students in Health and Wellness Student Organizations, SUPERB campus programming board and CalGreeks Programming Board. Sarah received her bachelors in Finance from the University of San Francisco, and is a current graduate student there working towards her masters in Higher Education Student Affairs. Sarah enjoys hiking, watching reality TV and trying new restaurants in San Francisco.

Elise Span4th year Biophysics Ph.D. candidate, UC-Berkeley QB3 Institute

Elise is a Ph.D. candidate in biophysics at Berkeley. Her dissertation research is on fungal enzymes that degrade cellulose and other polysaccharides. Besides serving on the VPC, she is the biophysics delegate to the UC-Berkeley Graduate Assembly and teaches science outreach in East Bay Area schools. In her free time, she enjoys meditating, hiking, and music.

Ashley VillanuevaUniversity Health Services, Tang Center
Ashley is a digital communications specialist at the University Health Services, Tang Center. She is passionate about understanding and solving problems for others through graphic design and web strategy, and challenges both herself and others to put the user/client first. She strives to create the “A-ha” moments with creative content and a clear, concise communication style. Ashley received her degree in Media Studies from Cal in 2012. When she's not glued to her computer screen, you can find her cheering on the Lakers (still a proud fan), trying new restaurants, or traveling up and down the California coast.
