The Violence Prevention Collaborative is comprised of student and employee members from a variety of organizations and departments on campus. Our focus is building strong partnerships across various roles and positionalities on campus in order to engage in meaningful and community-based violence prevention work. Bene Gatzert - University Health Services, Strategic Initiatives Manager
Bene began her career as a health educator at Cal, with a special interest in helping student communities identify their strengths and how they could improve the health of their fellow students. Her love for public health and organizational change led her to her work as a strategic initiatives manager, collaborating with student groups and advisory committees and leading new projects at the Tang Center. Bene received her bachelors from Cal and a Masters in Public Administration from San Francisco State University. She loves hiking, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Dax Vivid - 5th year PhD Candidate, Department of Integrative Biology
Dax works on multiple fronts under the broad category of graduate student wellness. Having attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate and now working as a project director through the Graduate Assembly, Dax has a long-term commitment for improving the campus climate.

Dylan Howser - LEAD Center Coordinator, Fraternity & Sorority Advising and Leadership Development
Dylan Howser is the advisor to the Interfraternity Council and Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA). Dylan earned his B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in Gender Studies from Millikin University (Go Big Blue!), and a M.Ed. in College Student Affairs with a graduate minor in Women's Studies from Penn State (We Are!). His scholarly interests are in critical theory & pedagogy, men & masculinity studies, curriculums in higher education, and the fraternity & sorority experience. In his free time, Dylan enjoys reading, binge watching tv shows, baking, and exploring the Bay Area.
finn schneider - Office of the Dean of Students, Manger of Violence Prevention & Bystander Intervention Initiatives
finn earned their B.A. in Psychology from The College of St. Scholastica and their M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont. finn has worked at various campuses over the past 8 years, focusing on social justice education and violence prevention. Originally from Michigan, finn enjoys all the Bay Area has to offer in the way of beautiful weather, delicious food and a plethora of hiking trails.
James Kato - Residential Education, Resident Director
James Kato is a co-chair of VPC. After earning his B.A. in Sociology and Asian American Studies from Pomona College, James taught middle school as a Fulbright Fellow in South Korea before getting his M.Ed. in Student Affairs at UCLA. Prior to his arrival at Cal, James was an Area Coordinator and Intercultural Program Coordinator at Wheaton College (MA). Here at UC Berkeley, James is responsible for several undergraduate residence halls and is also a Fellow in Student Affairs Learning and Development. Matt Boser - Project Coordinator, UCB Emancipatory Sexuality Education Program; Community Research Associate, UCB Restorative Justice Center
A former UCB graduate student trained in biology, the scope of Matt Boser's involvement has grown to include curriculum development, community-building, intervention design, and evaluation in the arenas of education and student wellness. Matt contributes to the incorporation of harm-reduction theory and praxis into institutions of higher learning.

Virginia Duplessis - Assistant Director of Sexual Violence Prevention
Virginia is part of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Student Advocacy Services team. She earned her BA at Stanford and her MSW at UC Berkeley. She has worked in rape crisis in domestic violence programs, as well as public health programs focusing on maternal, adolescent and reproductive health for over 15 years. Virginia is a fledgling knitter, vegan dessert lover, and distance runner.
