Alfred Day, Director of Student Affairs Case Management
Alfred Day (he/him/his) has enjoyed a 20-plus year career in the field of Student Affairs and Higher Education. He has been a part of the University of California system at UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Merced. Alfred has also served as the Assistant Dean of Students for the Institute for Shipboard Education in the Semester at Sea program (spring 2011). Alfred is certified in Campus Threat Management and Best Practices in Behavioral Risk Assessment; he serves as assessment chair for the UC Case Managers group. He currently serves on the Communications Committee for the Higher Education Case Managers Association and on the Alumni Association Board of Directors Faculty/Staff Council for Semester at Sea. He is also considered a nationally recognized expert in the area of Nerd/Geek topics in Higher Education Student Affairs.
Becca Lopez, Senior Student Affairs Case Manager
Becca Lopez (she/her/hers) brings student conduct expertise and knowledge to the team, having worked in Student Affairs at a diverse breadth of institutions. She has served students at institutions such as Hawai`i Pacific University, Michigan State University, Humboldt State University and Saint Mary’s College of California. Before joining the Case Management team, Becca was working as the Senior Conduct Coordinator in UC Berkeley’s Center for Student Conduct. She has worked closely with students going through the conduct process, and has participated in a variety of trainings addressing Title IX and sexual misconduct investigations. She has also served as the Northern California Representative for the Association of Student Conduct Administrators. Becca received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations from Hawai`i Pacific University and her Master of Arts degree in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University.
Noah Henry-Darwish, Student Affairs Case Manager
Noah Henry-Darwish (he/him/his) works to help coordinate the campus response to students in distress. Prior to joining the Case Management team at UC Berkeley, Noah earned his M.Ed. in Student Affairs and Higher Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. During graduate school, Noah worked as a graduate assistant in student activities and case management, and developed a passion for student affairs assessment and working with students in crisis. Noah earned his B.A. in Psychology from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where he also worked professionally in residence life and housing. In addition to his current work in case management, Noah serves as the staff and editorial assistant for the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), a national association that works to develop standards of practice for higher education professionals.
James Kato, Violence Prevention & Education Program Coordinator
James oversees the Bears That Care bystander intervention program and co-chairs the cross-campus Violence Prevention Collaborative.
James (he/him/his) is proudly Bay Area born and raised (Fremont, CA)! After earning his B.A. in Sociology and Asian American Studies from Pomona College, James taught middle school as a Fulbright Fellow in South Korea before getting his M.Ed. in Student Affairs from UCLA. Prior to joining the Case Management team, James was an Area Coordinator and Intercultural Program Coordinator at Wheaton College in Massachusetts and a Resident Director here at UC Berkeley. In addition to violence and harm reduction work, James is experienced in Intergroup Dialogue and social justice education facilitation and program development, and is also a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Outside the office, he serves fellow staff as Co-Chair of UC Berkeley's Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA).
