Strategic Planning Initiative: Belonging & Community Team
This page is dedicated to the Belonging & Community Team that developed from the Dream Big: Strategic Planning Initiative in the Division of Student Affairs. The team consists of students, staff, and faculty who are committed to increasing the sense of belonging and community for our students. The team is co-chaired by:
Associate Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students, Joseph Greenwell
ASUC President, Pavan Upadhyayula
Graduate Assembly President, John Ready
History of Project:
For the last two years the Division of Student Affairs has been working on a strategic plan to prepare for the future of Berkeley. We sat down with students and staff and asked them to dream big and imagine an ideal student and staff experience for the future. After evaluating the data and reaching out to constituents and stakeholders the division has set its focus towards one staff and one student goal, Cohesive & Supportive Culture and Belonging & Community respectively.

Updates from the Belonging & Community Team
October 2014: Subgroups have formed to address four key areas
- Complementing the Academic Mission
- Space: Virtual & Physical
- Underrepresented Populations
Each subgroup is led by a member of the larger Belonging and Community team. The subgroups are meeting routinely to finalize membership and identify campus partners who should be invited to participate in these conversations.
