CAREER CENTER - ON CAMPUS RECRUITING

four architectural pillars

Volume 1, Issue 1
Welcome to the Berkeley Haas Career Services.

You have joined a school with strong defining principles and a focus on helping you achieve academic success.  You have also joined a school with a strong focus on helping you achieve  career success too.  Haas and the Cal Career Center are your partners in all phases of your career development while you are at Haas.

We divide this partnership into four key pillars:

  1. OCR: On-Campus Recruiting
  2. Callisto: Your Gateway to Jobs, Program Events and Much, Much More
  3. Counseling: Your Personalized Job-search Partner
  4. Resources: Tools and people

PILLAR 1
OCR: On-Campus Recruiting

OCR provides you the opportunity to interview with 350+ employers who visit the Career Center during the Fall and Spring semesters. Full-time jobs and paid summer internships, primarily in business and technical fields, are offered through the program.

You’ll find OCR listings in Callisto under the “Jobs, Internships & OCR Interviews” tab beginning in late August. Interviews occur from late September through mid November for the Fall semester and late January through mid April for the Spring semester. Resume submission deadlines vary, so check Callisto often and soon!

PILLAR 2
Callisto: Your Gateway to Jobs, Program Events and Much, Much More

Callisto brings you the latest updates to keep you on task and in the know.  Not all employers hire through OCR.  Many post positions just on Callisto.  It is important to monitor Callisto to ensure you do not miss these opportunities.  To make the process more efficient please set up search agents to inform you when relevant positions are posted.

Sign up for easy, one-stop access to almost all online Career Center services and event sign ups.  Your counselors organize career-related events throughout each semester.  In addition to being posted on Callisto, these are announced in the weekly Business CareerMail.  You can find free-subscription information in Callisto.

Throughout the year the Career Center holds Job Fairs.  These attract a diverse and wide range of employers, not all of them are part of OCR.  Companies often give Information Sessions.  Watch Callisto and CareerMails for details.

Your gateway to your gateway is at career.berkeley.edu/Callisto/Callisto

PILLAR 3
Counseling: Your Personalized Job-search Partner

The business counseling team of David Woodward and Chris Gavin is dedicated to partnering you throughout your job search while you are at Haas.

We are available for 45-minute one-on-one counseling sessions at the Cal Career Center.  You can book yourself for these sessions through the Career Center website at career.berkeley.edu/Info/MakeAppt

You can also ask us specific job search-related questions at mini drop-in sessions we regularly hold at Haas.  In addition we hold career lounges at the School which range from informal drop-in discussion groups, through classes on specific topics, to employer or industry presentations.

Whatever stage of your job search you’ve reached – exploration, applying, interviewing, closing – or whatever topic – resume, cover letter, informational interviews, job-search etiquette – we here to help.

PILLAR 4
Resources: Tools and people

Studying at Haas gives you a great advantage.  Besides motivated employers wanting to recruit Haas students and graduates, many employers and alumni want to come to share their experience and their insights with you.

Your counseling team facilitate this by programming events throughout each semester.  These include industry or function panels, case-interview technique, networking events, and workshops on specific career-related topics such as LinkedIn, negotiating or making messages stick.

You will have access to a great network of Haas alumni and other friends of Haas.  It is important to use that network professionally and courteously to protect reputations – yours and the Schools.  Your counselors and networking events can help your develop and practice the necessary skills.

Callisto gives you access to information resources such as Vault employer and industry guides.  It enables you to place your resume in resume books that employers use to fill positions.

The Haas Long Library also has some great research tools that can help in your industry and company exploration, and in preparing for interviews.

We look forward to working with you and to celebrating your success.
